29th December, 2009. 9:11 pm. My Meanings - Slumber

I like the word slumber.

I like how it rolls off the tongue and how it reads. Sleep is so blunt and brings to mind an inert body in which nothing seems to be going on. Slumber, on the other hand, hints at dreams, at something lying just beneath the surface always on the verge of waking.

The sound of it can be elongated, it can be purred, growled, hissed. Magic is in its making.

This sentence ~.. and they fell into an enchanted sleep. ~ reads less, to my mind, than ~ and they fell into an enchanted slumber.~ although I admit this prehaps is not the best example of its use.

Slumber is a sleep, a step, into another realm.

Anyone can sleep, only a dreamer can slumber.

23rd December, 2009. 4:48 pm. My meanings - silver

Silver is my favourite metal. If it is a choice between something shiny and yellow and shiny and silver, silver has got me.

This is when you begin to see correlations with that other words on my meanings list. Silver links to moon, and its silvered light, then to star and twinkle and solace and peace and serenity and snow and so on and so forth.

Silver is connected, if not the main reason why I like many other words or use certain combinations when I write.

I wear silver exclusively, with inclinations towards white gold (which is very pretty) with pearls and sapphires, when I wear jewellery at all.

I'm not sure why I like it exactly. To me it looks cleaner, more elegant than gold. Also my mother can not wear gold at all, so I have grown up with just silver around me. The true reason, I guess, is my grandmother's fault. When I was very little her friend was in a silversmithing class. My grandmother was a lapidarian and they met that way. Anyhoo, I was given a small, solid silver braclet - which I promptly lost. Fast forward to when I'm 8 and we are moving house and we find this braclet crammed between the bed and the wall. We put it on and it's been on my arm ever since.

Can't come off actually, which has made airport staff suspicious and miffed in turns.

In the end, I just love silver *shrug* and thats how it is.

22nd December, 2009. 8:00 am. * Sigh *

So much for writing everyday, however yesterday was spend with me on the floor all day sorting through everything that I've kept that Joseph has done over the past four years of his young academic and art related career. I have no idea how I'm going to use what's left and I have quite a lot of photos to print out but we will get to that when we get to that.

No gym for me today, although I may go for a walk on the treadmill later, my back is feeling very stiff.

Today, instead will consist of the following:

* clean out the fridge
* stock fridge with foods for Christmas
* clean and tidy house
* wash any sheets and clothes that need doing.
* dodge the magpye that has decided that my backyard belongs to it *blasted bird*
* shopping

And that will take all day.

Will be back later. Tonight I also intend to get on to writing about my favourite words again.
Toodles.

Current mood: tired.
